Live Piano Music in Los Angeles People! Some Great Spots! : )

This is where I’m currently playing often if not every week! : )

Jamming!

Mark your calendars now the Trio is booked for The Varnish- (in addition to me solo on the other Tuesdays)

The Trio night will be the last Tues of every month now… and Last Tuesday was an unqualified hit!!

It was the coolest night I’ve played there in over two years of playing there regularly, just in terms of sheer enthusiasm from the crowd!!!!

Yes!! : )

The Left Coast Wine Bar is an awesome venue for me to be able to sing and entertain! It’s a heck of a lot of fun.

Everyone who comes in says that they will be coming back and they do and it’s just a great spot! : )

I play there every Friday night from 8:30 to 11:30. It’s the best spot for singers of people to sit in.

I have an extra mic set up , percussion for you to play and party hats–kidding about the party hats… but…..

Monday- Pasadena- Parkway Grill. It’s amazing! The food is art and it’s the best piano place I play.

This is my favorite piano of all of them.(although I love all pianos) It’s awesome when people come on Mondays to hang with me.

And that is more and more frequent. I love all my Parkway friends and fans very much! : ) 6-10 Mondays!

This week I’m at The Citrus Plaza in Redlands CA! 6-8 on Sunday night! It’s great for families

I’m set up in front of the Starbucks near the awesome fountain!

Love meeting new people! Love seeing friends!! : )

Los Angeles Pianist Meets New York Pianist! : )

I had the great honor of meeting Jimmy  Roberts in The Varnish a few weeks ago. I was just jamming

Image via Wikipedia

out playing some a wild  rendition of  George Gershwin’s “I Got Rhythm”-and a very upbeat group of people  came in. One of them kept asking for George Gershwin and he knew all the words. Not only the usual Verse /Chorus but also the cool intros.

Turns out it was “Jimmy Roberts”.

And this guy kept telling me how much he liked my George Gershwin renditions.

And Jimmy Roberts, when I checked him out on Google when I got home…is none other than the Composer for “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change”- This musical is the longest running off Broadway musical in history,yo! : )

Anyway, good people, Jimmy Roberts. He also is quite an entertainer noted for putting together shows using Gershwin tunes. Cool!

This was quite a treat.

I play at the Varnish on Tues nights from 830 to 12:30 and you never know who might drop in. : )

Top Los Angeles Pianist gets a Major Shot of Inspiration! : )

Wow!

I just saw CHICK COREA and Return to Forever!  at the Greek Theater!

And the opening act was Zappa plays Zappa!

Can I say INSPIRATION!- Unbelievable playing, beauty, compositional skill, showmanship, professionalism, etc…

Right of the bat– Zappa, Dweeszil Zappa and an amazing band opened for Chick. They were utterly jaw droppingily tight and perfect.

I have a new found love for the music of Frank Zappa which, in case YOU haddn’t realized it should be classified under Classical music.

There is really no other composer I can think of who writes is such a dizzying array of style, tempo and scale dips and plunges and manages to make it all completely smoke and rock-out and jam!!!

They played for almost an hour I’d say and the intire time I could not get the smile off my face! : )

Then….Return to Forever… a band that has inspired more musicians than maybe any other band in the past 30 years.

Maybe since Miles himself….Took the stage.

Chick at 70 is “El Maestro” as Stanley calls him. His play is just one inspration after another. Genius! Beauty.

I don’t think any other pianist or musician has inpired me more in my life  and  this was my FAVORITE show I have seen.

The whole band was just in top form. The Greek was packed. There was art in the air.

Stanley said that he had paid thousands for his friends and family to come to the show and that seems right.

This could explain the amazing musicianship that came off that stage!

I had never had the pleasure to see/hear either Frank Gambale- guitar or Jean Luc Ponty- Violin – live before and both were hard to adequately describe.

Gambale has too much fun. and [...]

Marc’s ipad=More Awesome Live Piano Music! : )

Yes I have an ipad and it’s awesome. I use it at every gig I play. I used to bring an entire suitcase to every gig so that if someone came up and said…Do you know ”Swanee River” or whatever I would be able to get my hands on it and play it.

When you create amazing piano music like  I do for a living that’s the name of the game. I may put my own spin on the tune but I start with the basic tune every time. : )

I researched a lot of different tablets to figure out which one to get and finally settled on the ipad  because I’m a musician and while I love Android, ipad has way more useful music apps at the moment.

I recently got a food pedal that I can use to control it made by a company called airturn .

The pedal allows me to turn pages with a foot switch so I can keep my hands on the piano and it’s wireless.  : )

Here’s a vid of the airturn page turner thingy! : )

The apps I use are awesome! One is called “Gigbook”. http://deepdishdesigns.com/gigbook.html  It allows one to load any pdf file into it and can load in entire song books as a book. Then the individual songs in the book can be saved as “bookmarks”. They then show up on a list of separate songs so you can find your hottest songs easily.

I also use one called “Songbook Chordpro” that allows one to go on the internet (and so far everywhere I have played has wifi-an internet connection) and instantly find almost any current song or pop song for the past 50 years and find the chords for it and the lyrics!! It’s awesome. These songs can then be saved [...]
