Art Galleries and Beyond!

I Played at the way cool Left Coast Wine Bar and Art Gallery on Thurs and Friday night. I had a blast. I love that place. Great room. Art Gallery. The best owners I’ve ever met! : )Tom and Rochelle! Wow!

Love the regular crowd. Emery and Tom and the rest of em.

I loved that my friends came down and hung out. JJ and Kelley showed up Rob and, and, and. What  a treat!

It’s all about Art!!

Last night was awesome! I realized that art is better with other art.

I love to play in art galleries.

Yesterday I played with my  fabulous trio in the The Edgemar Center for the Arts! Wow, was it cool. I wish I had more photos.

They have 2 pianos. A baby grand and a Yamaha upright. I played the Grand. With the trio!!

Marty Buttwinick on bass. Wonderful being, beautiful bass playing, and a sense of humor. Doron Eskanazi on the drums. Really there

and creative and always on the money! : )

I have got to do more trio gigs so we can play more.

What A Venue!

But check it out, we were in this beautiful venue. The space itself is an art gallery in a very hip modern building in Santa Monica,

CA, for the opening of a new Play by the amazing Henry Jaglom called “Just 45 Minutes from Broadway.” And there I was  with a bunch of beautiful art loving people and all these celebrities and

making music and people were dancing and…wow!! What a blast.

Tobias, the Studio Manager  and Nicholas, House Manager,  the care takers we’re an absolute pleasure to work with and just, WOW!

That was so much fun.

and  a real  play!! The venue is just plain beautiful and all the people there were just so helpful and motivated. My life is amazing….

The house was packed and I don’t know about you, but I love a room of people that come out to see the opening of an art Play!!         Now that is  awesome.

The Play

Highly entertaining.  Henry has quite the sense of humor and  he makes his point at least from my perspective that an artist has to  do what he loves no matter what and he’s better off and living more life if he does. It was really entertaining. Such a great cast. Wow, the set!! Real Theater!

Impressive down to the last detail. And Nicholas was commenting to me on the way out how great it was just to be a part of that much art. It’s a real cool group to be able to contribute to. Artists all!

And That’s not All, Folks!

All week was great. Parkway Grill, Monday.Always fun.

The Varnish on Tues. Some really beautiful people came in and one guy even sang a bunch of show tunes, cooool! We had dancers!

My song “Lane” is coming a long well. We tracked the vocals yesterday. : )

It’s getting close. The few people I’ve played it for have really liked it.

Kevin Holt’s song “Believe” is beautiful and getting better daily. : )

Solomon and Tracey and the Musical and, and, and….. Can you say busy?? : )

Motivated!

I’m motivated. I want to create more beauty and make more culture here on Earth. I want to contribute more to the Renaissance that we are starting!! : )

There is so much going on!

I am really busy and that’s good, isn’t it?

I’m gigging (i.e. working)(i.e. playing : ] ) a lot!

I’m working on my songs.

I’m learning all kinds of things: new software, recording techniques etc…..

Gigs

The Varnish is on Tues.  Parkway Grill on Monday. “Left Coast” this coming Thurs. Last Thurs I did Braemar Country Club! Which was beautiful.

They are all fun. All a challenge to keep them fresh and vital and deliver the goods.

I realized that any music can be elevated to fine art. Even “graphic art” can be fine art. How about that!  I realized that “dinner music” can be fine art and that’s what I am doing, fine art.  That was a good one! My playing is better and my mission is to keep pushing the bar up on the quality and the content of what I’m playing.

I’ve been fortunate to be able to play fundraisers with amazing vocalists. Beautiful rooms with wonderful people.

Today I go into some Hollywood studio to record Michael Duff’s Christmas CD!! Cool!!

Songs

I’ve been working with Marconi De Morais on my songs. What a learning experience. It’s really a dream come true to be able to work with someone who really has the total professional standard of  music production.  I’m really blown away with the product so far. (although we have  still a ways to go.)

For instance this song was too high for me to sing in the key that I wrote it but, the chords on the guitar that I was playing needed to be played “open” to get the lowest notes of the guitar. So I thought I just had to sing it high. But Marconi suggested we tune the guitar down a whole step.

Wow! It makes so much difference.  Might sound simple. I never knew you could do that.

I even had to use a pick on the song. (me, I never use a pick) So, I’m learning all kinds of new stuff and really raising the bar on the quality of my performance and product.

It’s amazing to be in that situation where I’m realizing that I really did not know practically the first thing about music production. And I’m having to really re-learn so much from the bottom up.

Scary, but wow, exciting! I’m setting the foundation for a totally industry standard of production.

Everything Else!

Isn’t it crazy how many things there are to delve into? I want to watch the whole DVD of the new Pro Tools recording program I got and spend hours just learning all the features.

(Not to mention the other 25 programs I have.)

Pasadena Fundraiser

I played such a great gig last week at the Bel Air Bay Club. I decided that I should promote to every Country Club in LA and area. And…every restaurant and caterer  and wedding planner and hotel in Malibu and Beverly Hills and Bel Air….

Only question, when do I have time to do that?  And the million other awesome ideas that i have in promotion and production???
