Electronic Chill- The Story

How did you come up with the idea for “Electronic Chill”?

Well, I have always played all kinds of music but I guess inside me there’s a classical composer trying to get out (laff).

You see, since I’ve been a kid every time I go in to check out new keyboards I want to click through the different sounds. The ones that almost always rock my world have been the beautiful, lush, orchestral things that sound sort of Symphonic and, I don’t know, big.

And immediately I have all these terrific ideas and can start to hear these compositions coming forth.

So you’ve been writing them for years…?

Well, I never had the opportunity to create these until I got a home studio 5 or 6 years ago and started getting a bunch of these beautiful new software instruments.

Several of them are listed on the instruments page (here).

But now the great thing is that I have the studio and after years of playing around in it and studying all this information on recording and mixing I now have the ability to

record them on the spot.

Since I’m a professional musician I always try to make my little “doodlings” into actual compositions. I’m always in the mindset of “lets write a piece of music here while I’m learning how amazing this beautiful instrument is” – - Whenever I get new equipment, which is as often as I can….(Laff).

I find a lot of my inspirations come from life. I’m concerned about the future and how this world is getting along and I feel I should try to help it out.

I always like the idea of having music available to take you out into a beautiful universe and get a break. And also to even remember that all of this is for that beautiful world someday that if we can get ourselves together, we can all make.

So I write a lot of stuff on that sort of vibe.

And when my wife told me about a project where what was needed was sort of ambient, chill, relax music I went, Hey! I have a lot of that. I started to go thorough my catalogue and pick out stuff that would fit and I took a bunch of stuff I had sitting around that needed to be wrapped up. ( uh oh! The truth is out) (laff)

Once I got into it I just started to really create on it and created new pieces to put on it and now I’m so excited about it I’m already writing for the next one and who knows how many more of them. I just got some new instruments and …….. laff.

Any advice for the guy coming up the line?

Sure, I think that thinking in terms of writing a song is a good idea and not just fooling around but always thinking in terms of how could I get a song done here that I could post on the internet or put onto a CD etc… and then the next thing is decide to be an artist and be one. If you start there the rest can happen. It’s kind of simple but I think all the best truths are simple.

Where do you go now?

Well I’ve got a film coming out that I did the score for that I have high hopes for – - it’s quite a good film. My friend Lincoln Meyers wrote it and it’s called “Invisible.” I have to tie up the loose ends of it and then I’m working of more music. I also produce songs for songwriters in my studio and have a couple of projects going there. And whatever comes up.
